About

I am a software developer who works in the railway sector. Started with programming around 1982, first on programmable calculators then on proper computers. The first computer I owned, a TI99/4a, had 16 kB of memory and ran at 3MHz. Later followed by a Commodore 64 on which I learned assembly. You would switch it on and a few seconds later you could start programming.

This purpose of this blog is to document projects and research. Started this blog because you only know if you truly understand something after you try to write it down.

One Particularly topic I am interested in is finding out where the 1000x speed-up in computers went. During my lifetime computers went from single processor systems clocked at several Mhz to multi processor systems clocked at several Ghz, with similar increase in memory. But modern systems do not feel 1000 times as powerful. Instead they feel sluggish and fragile.
